After
the "XP-Pro.img" file is finished being created,
locate the "XP-Pro.img" file with the "Choose
Disk C..." or type in the field next to the button:
~/XP-Pro.img
In the "Choose Disk E..." field, specify the Windows_XP.img
file that you (should have) created in step
1 by typing in the field next to the "Choose Disk
D..." button:
~/Windows_XP.img
If
you used different names for either of these disk images, be sure to use the names you specified.
In
WinTel, Select the "Boot from CD-ROM" option.
Your
screen should look similar to the screen below:
Now that we have our boot CD-ROM E: image specified, disk C: image
specified, and selected to boot from CD-ROM we are ready to start the
emulator. Click on the "Boot Virtual Machine" button
(or just hit return).
Welcome
to Windows Setup!
Hit
the "Enter" key to start installation.
You
will have to agree to the Microsoft license before continuing.
Select
the "disk" to install Windows onto. We use the default, which should be the same size of the WinTel disk image you created earlier. The 2nd 100 MB partition is our Windows additions disk image that can be used after Windows is installed to make Windows more compatible with WinTel.
Choose
your desired file system. We selected the default "NTFS"
file system.
Our
"C:" disk image must be formatted to be used.
Setup
will create a list of files to copy. This may take a moment or two on PowerPC Macs, and only a second or two on Intel Macs.
Setup
will take a little while to copy the files on PowerPC Macs, it should only take about 5 minutes on Intel Macs. This may be a good time
to take a coffee break or just stretch your legs.
After copying files, Setup will report that
it initializes the
configuration, then Setup
will restart.
And
XP will boot. If you are prompted to press a button to boot off the CD, do not press a button, we do not want to boot off the CD-ROM any longer, we want to boot of the C: drive.
Setup
should then continue with the installation. It is normal
to stay on this screen for about a half hour on PowerPC Macs, and for a few minutes on Intel Macs.
