| Enable "Share files and folders using FTP". If you want to be able to access your files with samba, then also enable "Share files and folders using SMB". |

In Windows, choose "My Computer" from the "Start" menu. |
| In the left menu, click "My network places". |
In the left menu, click "Add a network place". |
| The Network Place Wizard should start. Click "Next". |
Click on "Choose another network location" and hit "Next". |
Type in the IP address you noted at the beginning of this guide. For our example our address is 10.0.1.3, so type:
ftp://10.0.1.3
Be sure to use the IP address that you noted at the beginning of this guide.

Next you can choose to login anonymously which usually limits the access and possibly makes the access read-only. For our example we uncheck "Log on anonymously" and specify the "User Name".
The user name that we specify is our Mac OS X user account name. This is the same name that was specified when the Mac OS X account was set up, and is the account name used to login Mac OS X (if multiple users are enabled).
If you are not sure of the account name, start System Preferences on the Mac that you are attempting to share (and the same computer you enabled FTP file sharing at the beginning of this guide). The account name will be listed on the top left of the Accounts under "My account".
Hit "Next" to proceed. |
| Then assign any nickname you want this network place to be called. Hit "Next" to continue. |
We left the Open when finished option checked and press "Finish" to save and open the network place. |
You will be prompted for the user name and password. The username should already be filled in which you supplied in a previous step. Type the password for that user name. It is the password used to login to that Mac OS X account (User name).
We chose to have the password stored so that we are not required to type in the password every time we connect to this network place. It is up to you, if you want the password stored, click on "Save password".
When you are ready to proceed, press "Log On". The network place will attempt to connect. If you entered the right IP address, account name and password, you should see a window with the available files listed. |
You can now access this Network place anytime you want from the Start menu, just choose "Network places". |
